これからの日本は、「世帯の変革期」にあります。世帯の総数、1世帯あたりの人員、世帯の形態と分布、全てが大きく変化しています。国勢調査の推計によれば、2007年、標準世帯と呼ばれる［夫婦+子］の世帯数を［単独世帯］が抜くことになります。また［夫婦のみ］世帯も増加を続けています。このような世帯の小口化と多様化が進む結果、日本の総世帯数は過去最多の5,000万世帯を超えると予測されています。世帯の変容は大きなインパクトとなって、人々の志向やライフスタイルに影響をあたえます。そこには新たな課題が生まれ、それを支援するモノやサービスが必要になると考えられます。
